In reinforced concrete, steel is usually protected from corrosion by the passive protection offered by the alkalinity of the cement paste. However, due to the penetration of aggressive substances, steel can eroded. Three conditions must be met for steel to begin to corrode: ● The passivity of steel must have been damaged by chlorides or carbonation or by a combination of the two. ● Presence of moisture as electrolyte, usually permanent humidity over 3.5% by weight of concrete ● Presence of oxygen ● Presence a source of ammonia or sulfate in the concrete (eg septic tank leakage in the basement level).
A corrosion inhibitor is a chemical substance that, when added in small concentration to an environment, effectively decreases the corrosion rate or/and delay the onset of corrosion.
Sika® FerroGard®-903 Plus
A heavy duty migrating corrosion inhibitor. Sika® FerroGard®-903 Plus is a surface applied mixed corrosion inhibitor, designed for use as an impregnation of steel reinforced concrete. Sika® FerroGard®-903 Plus is based on organic compounds. Sika® FerroGard®-903 Plus penetrates the concrete and forms a protective monomolecular layer on the surface of the reinforcing steel. Sika® FerroGard®-903 Plus both delays the start of corrosion and reduces the corrosion rate. For corrosion rate value Icorr < 1.5 μA/cm^2.
Margel VPI-580
A heavy duty migrating corrosion inhibitor. Margel VPI 580 is a patented vapour phase corrosion inhibitor which is inserted inside concrete structural elements close to the reinforcing steel. The product has been specifically developed to ensure the corrosion inhibitors are released over a period of 12- 48 months. This results in a well bonded layer of corrosion inhibitor around the reinforcing steel resulting in a passivated protective layer that reduces exposure to chlorides, water and oxygen. For corrosion rate value Icorr < 1.5 μA/cm^2.
MCI®-2020 Gel
MCI®-2020 Gel is an organic corrosion inhibitor. It is considered ambiodic (mixed), meaning it protects both anodic and cathodic areas within a corrosion cell. MCI®-2020 Gel contains a synergistic blend of amine salts of carboxylic acids which form a protective layer on embedded reinforcement, delaying the onset of corrosion and reducing existing corrosion rates. By utilizing an injection application, MCI®-2020 Gel delivers active chemistry directly to the depth of steel reinforcement. At this depth, the inhibitor can move laterally through the concrete via aqueous, vapor, and interfacial diffusion along the embedded reinforcement.
SikaTop® Armatec®-110 EpoCem®
SikaTop Armatec 110 EpoCem is a bonding primer and reinforcement corrosion protection. It is a cementitious, epoxy resin compensated three component coating material with corrosion inhibitor, used as bonding primer and reinforcement corrosion protection.

BETONFIX-KIMIFER-SP
Betonfix KIMIFER is a single-component re-alkalizing, anti-corrosive hydraulic mortar for reinforcing bars, composed of a synergic system of corrosion inhibitors, CE marked according to the requirements of UNI EN 1504-7 for protection against corrosion of reinforcements. It is strongly adhesive to concrete and iron surfaces, has high alkaline properties and excellent resistance to water and harmful gases in the atmosphere. Its rapid setting reduces times of laying when restoring reinforced concrete structures with visible reinforcements.
● Embedded galvanic anodes
Embedded galvanic anodes
Embedded galvanic anoded for corrosion protection of reinforcing steel in concrete structures. Galvanic anodes consist of a zinc core surrounded by a specially formulated cementitious mortar. The zinc core corrodes preferentially to the surrounding rebar, providing galvanic corrosion protection to the reinforcing steel.
Sika® FerroGard® Patch CC
Sika® FerroGard® Patch CC is a zinc based discrete sacrificial anode placed in reinforced concrete structures which are corroding as a result of chloride ingress and / or carbonation. Sika® FerroGard® Patch CC discrete anodes are placed into sound carbonated or chloride contaminated concrete outside of any concrete repaired areas (occasionally can be placed also in the repaired area as well). Once installed, the Sika® FerroGard® Patch CC anodes will corrode preferentially to the surrounding reinforcement, offering protection against corrosion damage.
Sika® FerroGard® Duo
Sika® FerroGard® Duo is a hybrid anode based on a dual technology which combines Impressed Current Cathodic Protection and Galvanic Cathodic Protection systems. Sika® FerroGard® Duo discrete anodes are placed into sound but chloride contaminated concrete outside of any concrete repaired areas. The anodes work in 2 phases: 1st phase - an impressed current is driven from the Sika® FerroGard® Duo anodes to the steel using a temporary power supply. During this stage, the reinforcement’s passive film is strengthened and aggressive ions are drawn away. 2nd phase - at the end of the 1st phase the power is removed. The anodes then act as a long-term sacrificial anode preventing further corrosion.
